And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before. -Job 42:10

Good morning and happy hump day! There’s something transformative about putting the needs of others before your own. In the scripture above, we see Job doing just that—and as a result, he receives a multiplied blessing.

The passage describes how Job’s friends initially came and sat silently with him in the ashes, offering a much-needed moment of comfort through their presence.

But in time, they spoke—not words of encouragement, but what had been quietly brewing in their hearts. It’s important to recognize: not everyone who sits with you in your lowest moments does so free of judgment.

After voicing their accusations and, in essence, preparing to say their final farewells to Job, something unexpected happened. Rather than respond with bitterness, Job found peace by selflessly praying for them. And through that act of compassion, he received immense blessing.

Unselfish prayer carries great power. It reflects the heart of Christ, who, even in the Garden of Gethsemane with the cross only hours away, chose to pray for both His disciples and those yet to come.

While praying for your enemies may be difficult, praying for your friends should come naturally. So, pray often—for your friends, your loved ones, and certainly also your enemies, never stop lifting them up.
