O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee. -2 Chronicles 20:12
Good morning and happy Monday to you! The scripture above highlights a crucial principle of communication: it is a two-way street, with messages flowing in both directions.
Too often, our prayers involve us doing all the talking without giving space for the Lord to respond. Yet, when God answers, His response typically brings feedback, guidance, and encouragement.
In this familiar story, King Jehoshaphat opened his heart to God, laying out his concerns in prayer. But what’s especially important is that his supplication made room for a response—a space for God to speak.
This openness is captured in the final sentence of the scripture: “but our eyes are upon thee.” This phrase implies more than just watching—it suggests that their ears were also open, expectantly waiting for feedback, direction, encouragement, or even deliverance.
Jehoshaphat’s act of releasing his words in faith created that space. And right after, God responded—speaking through an otherwise unknown Levite.
The rest of the story unfolds into a great victory, but it began when the King let go—when he surrendered, allowing God to take the lead. Beloved it would do us all well to step back from many conversations and wait on God’s voice.
