But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. -Luke 23:21

Good morning and TGIF! Around 2,025 years ago, a powerful scene unfolded before the Roman governor Pontius Pilate. Pilate the Roman Prefect of Judea was in the borrowed palace of Herod the great I Jerusalem, holding court. Outside A crowd had gathered, loudly demanding the release of a prisoner with cries of, “Release Barabbas!”

But they could just as easily have said, “Release Jesus,” because, as the historian Josephus records, the full name of the man freed that day was Jesus Barabbas. And so, I pose this question to you today: which Jesus are you choosing?

Only five days earlier, many of these same voices had shouted “Hosanna! Glory to the King!” Now, they were calling for His crucifixion. Those who had laid their cloaks before His donkey now stood by as soldiers cast lots for His garments. And yet, in just a few hours, eyes filled with pain from the cross would look out and say, “Father, forgive them.”

How is it possible that those who bound Him were met with His forgiveness? That the very wounds inflicted upon Him would become the source of healing for His accusers?

As we reflect during these next three days, beloved, don’t lose sight of the weight of the cross or the consequences of our choices—choices that can either lead us to freedom in Him or, tragically, crucify Him again.

Go fellowship this weekend, we all need it.
