Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: -1 Peter 5:8
Good morning and happy Monday to you!
The Apostle Peter not only encourages us to stay alert but also sheds light on how the enemy operates.
He compares the enemy to a roaring lion—an image that holds significance both in the natural world and the spiritual. In the wild, a lion often roars to intimidate its prey, typically when the prey is cornered.
The roar itself is terrifying and can cause the prey to freeze, but it does no physical harm on its own. It serves more as a psychological weapon—a bluff meant to provoke hesitation.
It’s a fitting metaphor. Spiritually, the enemy employs similar tactics—using fear and intimidation to make us doubt or hesitate in our faith. The lion may not know who it can devour on any given day, but it is always on the hunt. Peter’s reminder is a timely one: don’t give in to fear, but stay alert and aware of how fear can be used as a snare.
