Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. -Galatians 6:7
Good morning and happy Monday to you!
It can be risky to adopt new phrases and word usage without careful consideration.
One such phrase that has gained popularity is “matching energy.” However, it is not your responsibility to mirror someone else’s “energy”.
At its core, matching energy is a form of quid pro quo—often leaning toward retaliation rather than fairness. It essentially means treating others exactly as they treat you, which differs from the principle of “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
The latter, often referred to as the Golden Rule, emphasizes self-control and discourages actions toward others that you would not want done to you.
If you respond to someone’s behavior by treating them the same way, it can become an act of vengeance. For example, if someone wrongs you and you retaliate in kind—that is not justice but revenge, which doesn’t belong to you.
