1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. -

2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.  -1 Corinthians 2

Good morning and tremendous Tuesday to you! Beloved, as I reflect on these scriptures, the phrase that comes to mind is “back to the basics.”

The Apostle Paul, in his defense against his accusers, sought to redirect their focus. Though he possessed tremendous gifts, he chose not to emphasize how God had prepared him for ministry but instead centered on the core message.

This message surpasses gifts, abilities, talents, and life experiences. It is simply Christ—the atonement for our sins—who loved us, bore stripes for us, shed His blood, and gave His life for us.

As a pastor, despite my education, I often find myself returning to the foundational message of the gospel, for it was this simple truth that led to my salvation. And this return is not just a personal journey but one we should all eagerly embrace. Let the Word do the work.
