For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. -Matthew 7:29

Good morning and happy hump day to you! In the final teaching of the sermon on the mount, the Lord had just emphasized the importance of building on firm foundations.

His teachings left the people astounded, suggesting that while many priests taught what they had heard, not all necessarily believed it. Teaching with authority requires faith, a quality the Lord demonstrated even in the face of early challenges in His ministry.

During His earthly ministry, a prevalent challenge was the lack of faith among the Children of Israel, exacerbated by the occupation and the diminished authority of the High Priest and Temple Levites.

This lack of faith persists today, as people often prioritize catchphrases and trendy doctrines over seeking the Lord's guidance directly. Everybody forego staying before the Lord to hear Him instead they strictly feed off each other (Get Ready, get ready, get ready).

But then here comes this rebel from a lower class non-Levitical family teaching as one who had faith and therefore taught with the assurance found in those who have a grasp of who they are with authority!

The writer Luke in the introduction of his book stated what we seem to find a shortage of today, “You’ve simply got to believe”.
