And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen. -Genesis 22:14
Good morning and terrific Thursday to you!
The scripture above comes from the story of Abraham who after living close to 100 years finally has a son with his beloved wife. Only to find that the Lord has instructed him to take this child and sacrifice him.
Taking Isaac his son to the designated place and preparing to sacrifice him, Abraham then stated his faith in God by saying though he was going to go sacrifice his son, he told a servant “We (Isaac and him) will go worship and we will return”.
At the altar, at the last minute Isaac bound, lying on wood, knife wielded in striking position, the Lord provided a sacrifice identifying the ram in the bush. At this point Abraham pronounced the name Jireh, denoting a location and an attribute of our omnipotent God as in my Lord, my provider.
Most say Abraham added a name but what can we add to “I am”? The thing is we are not adding, we are recognizing what has always been there.
Abraham merely recognized something that was always there that he had yet to see. Serving an unlimited God means there are life circumstances that you have not yet reached on your timeline, but our unlimited God is already there and has already provided for what you will need at that point.
