31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. 33 They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? 34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. 35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
-John 8
245 years ago this country declared freedom from England. And although the nation had declared itself free it took over 7 years of war before the British were defeated.
Finally, after the revolutionary war was over and our European brothers and sisters lived in a free society. It took over 80 years for the notion of being free as a right to the African Americans who had been enslaved over 200 years at that point.
The emancipation proclamation which went into effect on January 1, 1863, freed those enslaved in states they were actively in rebellion against the United States. So for example Kentucky a slave state but a Union member didn’t free slaves until December 1865.
Which is 6 months after freedom came to slaves at Galveston, TX. Did it end there sadly no. Native Americans who had been “forced migrated” to Oklahoma Territories were considered sovereign nations. And as it is known they had migrated with all their possession to include slaves. Being sovereign meaning their constitution didn’t recognize the US and slavery continued until June 14, 1866.
So the 13th and 14th amendment didn’t end all slavery because behind it came Jim Crow, sharecropping, chain gang politics and if time permitted I could take slavery deep into the 20th Century in the United States.
The scriptures above teaches us that to be enslaved by a man is not true slavery, true slavery is to sin and Jesus expresses no matter what physical slavery you may be in, He can set you free…indeed.
God bless you and command your day!!!
