Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. -2 Timothy 3:5

God bless you on this Monday morning. I am going to examine 2 Timothy 3:5-7 over the next few days.

Let’s start with the first part of the verse. “Having a form of godliness”. A form of godliness in today’s world is seen more often than we care to acknowledge.

This form was created by what we call the spirit of religion. It attempts to steal worship by cheap imitation.

There are imitations of holiness in pure jest, I’ve seen young people who can imitate every dance, tongue, shout and more. I’ve also seen those in serious error which includes some who have been taught in error and those who perceive wrong.

Those wrongly taught might be the most sincere but false teaching results in confusion. Until that person submit themselves to the Lord and allow Holy Spirit to redirect them and their study of the word they will have “a form of godliness.”

And there are those who mock holiness or use it to manipulate others. Try the spirit by the spirit. True holiness is like a precious metal, when heat is applied it separates from the impurities around it.

The only way to avoid the spirit of religion’s trick of looking like but not being,  is through sincerity of action and purpose and not allowing the flesh to have its say in matters of your relationship with the Lord.
