Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: -James 1:19
Good morning and God bless you. Ever notice how fast things are as compared to yesteryear?
I was just taking a course on Heat Illnesses and of note of the different types of injuries (stroke, cramps, exhaustion, etc), that one piece of advice of medical personnel is the same, simply to slow down.
This is true in many areas of our lives. We rush to complete tasks, we rush to appointments, and this trait or tendency is shared by all. Due to this tendency many opportunities, relationships, and even lives have been lost.
James reminds us of this important when it comes to living a godly life. More often than not invaluable information and understanding is loss in the rush.
A habit I took up as a young boy is I sat and listened to older people and it built in me an appreciation for taking knowledge from their experiences. In that way I’ve avoided a multitude of heartache.
This is not to say I avoided all of the heartache but every heartache I suffered was as a result of not applying what I had heard to a given situation.
Being slow to speak and quick to listen also helps to alleviate problems of the third bit of advice James has given us.
Slow to anger...If you quickly over talk and just as fast ignore what is being said you can walk into the rage trap. This trap is the cause of so many problems and the suffering isn’t measurable.
Blind rage is a result of not what you are being told in the present but past things. You assume and you go manic.
Beloved my advice from many years of failing is to slow it down, ask the Lord to reveal what His search has found in your heart. You and everyone around you will live a more peaceful life.
