1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
Psalms 1
God bless you and happy Friday. The scripture above deserves one of those “This” emoji you know with fingers above it pointing. But often it gets the “meh”.
There are three warnings given here. The writer extols how blessed you are when you do not allow yourself to be inundated by a chorus of ungodly advise by the obviously ungodly, nor hang too tough with sinners, or hang back and allow yourself to become critical.
The ungodly usually has an agenda that is not only self serving but will be so even at your great expense. Judas showed what could be greed disguised as concern in John 12, when he expressed discontent at the “waste” of the ointment on Jesus.
The second bit of advice is to just watch the company you keep. You may not with baited breath hang on every word of your crowd, but to generally spend excessive time with them is a danger.
Mama always said lay down with dogs... your excuse may be I am trying to influence them...nay I say😊. If I am diving without scuba equipment I would go down for a few moments and then resurface for air. The same is applicable for hanging too tuff with those who could be a bad influence on you.
The third bit of advice is to not sit in the seat of the scornful. The thing about the scornful is they say or even think they can do something better, but they never put forth any effort.
Perhaps because they are drained, it takes a lot out of you when you are hyper critical. Notice that the scornful are SEATED meaning that the do nothing but criticize attitude may be a trait that either is of lazy people, or will overtime make you lazy.
Some wonderful advice if applied. Not to leave you without focus the Psalmist says think on God...mediate on Him so that your path is directed and you become as the next verse strong as a tree plant by...
