25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.

Good morning and terrific Thursday to you!

In the scripture, we see that after Jesus fed the multitude—a moment in which the disciples themselves partook and were satisfied—He sent them ahead.

Often, after a season of fulfillment, a time of testing follows. Jesus was fully aware they would face a trial, yet He still sent them forward, knowing He would be present when the moment called for it.

Reflecting on this passage brings to mind the old but insightful saying: sometimes we fear not only the problem, but also the solution.

The storm was the problem—violent and threatening to overturn their boat. Yet the solution was also approaching, and they mistook Him for a ghost.

At times, the solution can resemble the problem so closely that we fail to recognize it. Our experiences with hardship can leave us so disillusioned that we are unable to perceive help when it arrives.
