Good morning and TGIF! The scripture above has always intrigued me and sparked many discussions around the question: what sin was at play here?
If we only consider the obvious sin of disobedience, we might overlook the sin of Balaam and his greed. In this passage, Lot’s wife looks back at a place of deep moral corruption, possibly longing for what she left behind.
Sometimes the dysfunctional norm we’ve become accustomed to and familiar with feels more comfortable than the uncertainty of what lies ahead. However, when the Lord calls us out of such abominations, He instructs us not to long for what is behind, this is a statement of our new faith in Him.
Longing for past sins suggests that not only have you not been fully delivered, but you never truly left. While it is permissible to share your deliverance story to help others, staying in that place too long can risk drawing you back into it.
