And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose. -Mark 1:7
Good morning and terrific Thursday to you!
As I contemplate the scripture above, the word 'surrender' resonates in my thoughts. Jesus referred to John the Baptist as the greatest person born of a woman.
At first glance, John may not have seemed remarkable. He was born to elderly parents who didn't possess great wealth. His father was a part-time priest, part-time shepherd, and his mother a housewife. His attire wouldn't fit the fashion of any era, his diet was far from appetizing, and his demeanor could be seen as brusque.
However, despite these apparent limitations, the Lord considered him great. Going beyond the surface, we see that John never sought his own glory; he directed it all to God. He didn't draw attention to himself but instead focused on the message of repentance. I believe his esteemed status was due to his profound willingness to surrender.
This surrender was so deep that he didn't take for granted his close familial ties with the Lord. Often, family members don't perceive you as others do. While those aspects remain true, in our present age, the Lord calls for surrender. Similar to John, He wants us calling out that a day of reckoning is approaching, reminding others as we fulfill the great commission that someone greater is coming. This coming individual will reward and judge."
God bless you and command your day!!!
