Good morning and happy Independence Day to you! As a young boy I always referred to this day as “the 4th”. In fact I am not sure if I knew the official name. In what was almost like an acknowledgement that freedom was declared but not realized by all until many years later. 


And then that freedom may be physical, but true freedom is spiritual. No man is free unless he has been freed from the penalty of sin and death. 


A man who is known to have committed a crime will eventually be found. While not in custody is he really free, indeed? It is a matter of time before he is found and that freedom is gone. In such a case he is not truly free. 


But if the son set you free, you become as Paul, locked up by man but not the prisoner of man but of God and free indeed.

His mission had multiple purposes, and I will highlight two of them. First, we needed an example of righteousness—someone conceived without sin and who lived a sinless life.
