And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals. -Matthew 14:15
Good morning and Happy Monday. I have been looking at the two feedings of Christ. Both feedings had purpose. The Lord never does anything without purpose. Over the next few days I want to pull from those feedings and their purposed significances.
I was meditating yesterday morning, on the story found in Matthew 14 above and the truth that many people do not know that two feedings took place. The scripture above comes from the first feeding of over 5000.
The question asked of Jesus by the disciples, showed that they lacked faith. And I found myself asking the same, why didn't the people just go into town to buy substance and then return to Jesus?
Before the question was fully formed in my mind, the Spirit began to speak understanding. The reason was that they hungered for Jesus. At times your desire may be to have a certain thing to eat, and because you do nothing else will suffice.
Or you may not feel well and may not want to eat. Some things can make you lose your natural appetite. But in this case their spiritual appetite superseded what they may have felt in the flesh.
They desired Jesus more than they desired physical substance. How much do you want Him (thank you, Julius DeBerry)? We've got to become so desiring of Him that we put everything on the back burner.
