I RETURNED, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. -Ecclesiastes 9:11
Good morning and Happy Monday. Of the many times I’ve read the scripture above I have always skipped over the word RETURNED.
It seemed to be an oddity or oddly placed; because to return, means that place you are now at is a place you were at previously. A place of familiarity and comfort.
Solomon didn’t make a mistake in using the word “returned”; because Solomon had been where he now was.
Not to rehash Solomon’s story but read how Ecclesiastes begins and you will see Solomon repenting. And in his repentance he wrote his most inspired words and RETURNED to God’s forgiveness.
Take note that God’s amazing grace didn’t let Solomon’s past destroy his future. In our case God does the same restoration for who so ever will return to Him.
And He makes a once bright future even brighter!
