10 Then said the LORD, Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:
11 And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle? -Jonah 4
Good morning, TGIF and God bless you. For some reason the Lord is keeping me in the micro book, by the Minor Prophet Jonah.
Yesterday we found a reluctant Jonah trying not to take the message of salvation to Nineveh. His action was selfish, prideful, and sad to say common among many today.
Yet the saddest thing was when the city repented from King on down, the attitude of Jonah was anger.
This is yet another symptom of “Chosen People Syndrome”. Determining the worthiness of someone else to hear the salvation message directly conflicts with the great commission of Matthew 28...
Though it is not likely your thrown fit would resemble Jonah who sat in the hot sun, even suicidal because Nineveh was not destroyed. There is “The Rest of the Story” explaining Jonah’s hate which we will not touch today.
But we in like fashion do the same among people in our neighborhood’s. Owners of stores not of our ethnic group and even in the house the Lord.
You know them they come to church in tattered or inappropriate clothing, either because they don’t know better or can’t do better.
Then along with the discouragement of the enemy, they face our sideways glances and suspicious looks and etc.
When a visitor comes to church, when you go into that store, when you pass by or otherwise interact with someone not of your ethnic group or cultural norms are different, think of Jesus and the encounters he had with the Samaritans.
Enjoy your weekend and go to church!
