And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come to thee, and shew thee what thou shalt do. -1 Samuel 10:8

And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever. -1 Samuel 13:13

Good morning and God bless you. Have you ever been anxious? Don’t answer that because haven’t we all been anxious?

That is a normal human trait and God understand this but being anxious is a fleshly attribute as it literally denotes a lack of faith.

Especially since the opposite is patience which is a fruit of the spirit. In the scripture storied above we find the first King of Israel Saul, and the first commandment where he disobeyed the voice of God given through the prophet Samuel.

Samuel had just anointed him King and told him to gather the army and go forward to Gilgal; but before he was to go into battle Saul was to wait for Samuel to come and make a sacrifice.

Samuel told Saul to wait seven days for his arrival. Saul waited those days and it seems that at the precise time those days ended, Saul enraptured in fear of losing his army made a sacrifice which was in direct disobedience to the Lord.

And as it was, the moment he had completed the sacrifice wearing the priestly garb, who but Samuel shows up.

The story is a significant one in terms of how we mustn’t allow peer pressure, lack of faith, and our emotions to rule us.

Saul succumbed to the pressure and became “emotionally impatient”. There is a real danger in being “emotionally impatient” as Saul found later on that the cost was unbearable.

Consider how Joshua ruled his emotions and not let his emotion rule him. Joshua didn’t allow the fear of the giant philistines , fear of the people or peer pressure make his choices.

Being a leader is tough. But we are called to lead and built to lead in whatever area we are in. So don’t think that you can not be a leader of whatever the Lord has graced you to be or do, just do it to His glory and not to your vanity.
